We all have a habit of hanging on to too many things in our homes, but sometimes hoarding gets out of control and becomes a hazard and safety risk.

As a landlord you might have a tenant that you know has filled their homes with what we might perceive as junk, but to the them these are precious sentimental items, or maybe the tenant wants help to clear out but is overwhelmed by the task.

Talking to a hoarder can be tricky as we don't want to hurt someone's feelings, make them feel dirty or put too much pressure on them if they are suffering with poor mental health.  If you are worries about someone you can get some help to talk to them and support them in making sure their home is safe.

Safelincs offer free home fire safety checks,  They work closely with partners, and can help with simple home visits or more complex case.

Requests and referrals must now be done via the Safelincs system, an online form developed in conjunction with the National Fire Chiefs Council.

The form can be accessed by visiting www.twfire.gov.uk/hsc .
