It is important to have a strong and clear tenancy agreement so that the tenant understand the terms of their tenancy.
The Government has produced a model template document which is available to download for free, or you may wish to choose to use our template. If you need help drafting a tenancy agreement, or would like help with a property sign in we might be able to help, contact us at privaterentedservice@newcastle.gov.uk

Providing information to DWP
If your new tenant needs to claim Universal Credit Housing Costs to help pay their rent the DWP might ask you to confirm the tenancy has started, they will ask you to provide certain details in a letter.
You can draft a letter yourself or use our handy template to provide this information. You can also use this template to confirm proof of tenancy during a periodic tenancy or when there has been a rent increase.
Important: It is important that you provide information requested by DWP as failure to do so may affect the tenants claim and results in rent arrears.
