The government has released a new Easy Read version of the 'How to rent in England' leaflet.

This guide is for tenants and landlords in the private rented sector to help them understand their rights and responsibilities. It provides a checklist and more detailed information on each stage of the process, including:

  • what to look out for before renting
  • living in a rented home
  • what happens at the end of a tenancy
  • what to do if things go wrong

The easy read version is designed for people who struggle with the written word or information presented in certain formats.  Easy read uses a mixture of plain English and images to provide the relevant information.

Landlords should always provide their tenants a copy of the How to rent leaflet upon signing a new fixed terms tenancy agreement (renewals as well as brand new tenancies) and provide the Easy read version as appropriate or on request.
